What are the steps of the UCA?
As has already been explained in “What is the UCA?”, the Urban Circularity Assessment requires three main parts, with individual steps, to be carried out:
-
(1a) Material flow accounting: Eight steps are required to complete this part through data collection and processing
-
(1b) Material stock accounting: Four steps are required to complete this part through data collection and processing
-
(2) Measuring indicators: Three steps are required to complete this part through data processing and analysis
-
(3) Assessing circularity: Three steps are required to complete this part through data analysis
There are two additional steps: The first one precedes the main work (while included in the system definition part of the MFA) and is on gathering data of the urban context, see “Defining urban context”. The second one is the optional writing of the UCA report.
Tip: If you have carried out the sector-wide circularity assessment (SCA), then you will already have gathered a lot of data, some of which is on the city level. You can reuse this data in the UCA and complement it with additional data where needed.
